Il golf sta crescendo in popolarità, il numero dei campi da gioco è aumentato e i costi si abbassano allargando così la possibilità a tutti di imparare a giocare. Nonostante l’apparenza, il gesto atletico è difficile e complicato. È asimmetrico, violento, ripetuto almeno 120 volte(per 18 buche, prove incluse), e include una combinazione di movimenti dannosi per la schiena e gli arti inferiore e superiore. La rotazione, l’estensione, e la flessione laterale della schiena, insieme con le forti contrazioni muscolari eccentriche, provocano notevoli stress al corpo umano. Per questo, ma non soltanto, il golf e la Chiropratica sono fatti l’uno per l’altra.
Circa l’85% degli infortuni del PGA Tour e del Senior Tour sono da riferirsi alla spina dorsale, e circa il 75% di questi golfisti ricevono regolari trattamenti chiropratici. Lo scopo di questo articolo non è di insegnare lo swing, ma far capire dove sono i punti critici e quali esercizi possiamo fare per giocare meglio e con pochi rischi per la nostra schiena. A margine si trova qualche consiglio e accorgimento da seguire sul campo per godere al massimo di questo bellissimo e affascinante sport. Luca Flori di Montelupo (FI), maestro professionista di golf, parla dell’importanza del fisico per arrivare in fondo alla gara ancora concentrato e con il fiato. “Il giocatore deve essere capace fisicamente e mentalmente di giocare ancora un minimo di 9 buche dopo i 18 di gara per essere considerato in buona forma.” Per il maestro Flori questo significa allenamenti anche in palestra, specialmente durante l’inverno, e per mantenere la schiena libera e flessibile si sottopone a regolari trattamenti dal chiropratico. Spiega il maestro Flori che anche la parte mentale del gioco del golf è di importanza enorme, e per questo il giocatore non deve essere distratto dai problemi fisici oppure dalla stanchezza.
Secondo il Dr. Jeffrey Blanchard, chiropratico, autore e professionista del golf, gli infortuni nascono di solito da tre fattori: postura scorretta, mancanza di flessibilità e problemi tecnici nello swing. Per la tecnica dello swing è fondamentale imparare dall’inizio da un maestro professionista e poi seguire lezioni periodicamente per eliminare le cattive abitudini e per perfezionare i dettagli di questo movimento complicato. Per mantenere una postura corretta e aumentare la flessibilità possiamo seguire i consigli di un vero fenomeno nel mondo del golf, Tiger Woods, il quale sostiene che la palestra, esercizi quotidiani di stretching e trattamenti chiropratici regolari hanno migliorato notevolmente le sue prestazioni golfistiche. Qui di seguito vengono presentati alcuni esercizi di base che possono risultare utili nello svolgimento delle fasi dello swing: Le seguenti semplici regole, proposte dall’American Chiropractic Association, vi aiuteranno a evitare infortuni vari e a migliorare il vostro gioco:
- Acquistate attrezzatura adatta. Non provate ad adattare il vostro movimento agli attrezzi sbagliati. È possibile comprare le mazze fatte apposta per voi. Christopher Cowie del Montelupo Golf Club sta facendo mazze da golf su misura. Spiega il signor Cowie che “le mazze possono creare dei problemi quando la rigidità del bastone oppure il peso non è quello corretto per l’individuo”. Le parti della mazza (grip, bastone, testa) sono scelte in base alla necessità di ogni giocatore, eliminando così la possibilità di procurarvi danni per colpa dell’attrezzatura non adatta. Sono prodotte in funzione della velocità del vostro swing e alla vostra altezza, prestando anche particolare attenzione alla vostra forza muscolare.
- Eseguite degli esercizi di stretching e riscaldamento prima di giocare ed esercizi di stretching e raffreddamento dopo il gioco.
- Tirate, non trasportate il bagaglio da golf. Trasportare una sacca pesante per 18 buche può causare alla spina dorsale una pressione che infastidisce i dischi e irrita i nervi. Se si preferisce muoversi in cart, tra una buca e l’altra, alternatelo con il camminare.
- Cercate di coinvolgere tutto il vostro corpo. Ogni tre buche, può essere di aiuto fare un movimento rotatorio con l’arto opposto, per mantenere bilanciata la muscolatura da entrambi i lati e alleggerire la schiena dallo stress.
- Bevete molta acqua. La disidratazione causa stanchezza più velocemente, quindi si è costretti a compensare aggiustando il movimento e ciò aumenta il rischio di problemi alla schiena. Non fumate e non assumete alcolici perché ciò causa perdita di liquidi.
Il chiropratico è preparato e qualificato per trattare l’intero sistema neuromuscolo-scheletrico. Alcuni chiropratici sono specializzati in medicina dello sport e quindi sono in grado di dare consigli ai golfisti per limitare lo stress sulle parti del corpo sottoposte a particolari sollecitazioni. Non solo, il chiropratico può fare funzionare al massimo e alleviare anche il dolore di altre parti del corpo quali spalle, ginocchia, braccia e polsi e tutto ciò può incidere positivamente sul risultato del gioco.
